New DNA Results
Wanted to let everyone know that new results, including some from the new 68-111 panel, are being received from ftDNA. Please visit the Results Page to view them. The graphical descent charts will be updated once all pending results are received. The matches we're receiving are exciting and we're identifying lines of descent for previous "mystery" lines. If you haven't had your Wait(e)(s) Y line DNA tested...you are missing out on potentially saving yourself years of traditional research. For more information on this inexpensive and mature testing tool please visit the ftDNA site; read our DNA page; or contact me directly. Hoping you'll decide to join our project!
Genetic Lineage of Daniel Waite of Addison County Discovered!
Exciting news Wait(e)(s) family members. Results are being received for a descendant of Daniel Waite and Abigail Reed of Addison County, Vermont! Since my line goes back only as far as Addison County...I've always been intrigued with this family as it was a "suspect" for my lineage. I can definitively say now that...nope...I do not descend from Daniel and Abigail. BUT...anyone who is definitely is genetically related to Richard of Watertown. Please watch the results as I update the Raw Data and Descent Chart. This is so exciting and once again proves the value of genetic genealogy. If you haven't ordered your DNA test kit yet...today is a good day!
Lincolnshire Lines DNA
WGRF is excited to announce that we have just two last lines to test from the Lincolnshire group and are actively searching for descendants of the following individuals to test. Specifically we are looking for men who still carry the surname Waite (any spelling) who have a papertrail to one of these individuals. A full explanation of the process (buccal swab) and our project can be found at waitegenealogy.org.
- William and Sarah Kingsley Waite of Hampshire Co., MA
- Gamaliel and Grace ( ) Waite of Boston, MA
- Any male descendant of a Wait(e) family with roots in Lincolnshire, England.
We are very close to making some major breakthroughs in this line and need these last few samples to get a full idea of our genetic signature and the ancestral haplotype.
The Waite-Potter Chimney
"As an architectural style, “stone enders” were built c. 1640-1700, and incorporated a massive stone chimney for most or the entire north wall. According to American Houses: A Field Guide to the Architecture of the Home by Gerald L. Foster, lime needed to make mortar was scarce in 17th century Massachusetts, and builders were forced to import it from England, making stone and brick masonry work expensive - early masons set their fireplace and chimney bricks in clay, using lime mortar only above the roof where the chimney was exposed to the weather. However, lime did occur naturally around Narragansett Bay, and stone was commonly used for very large fireplaces and chimneys."

We believe that this photo is of Rufus Sullivan Waite, Jr., who was born in New York in 1826 and lived in Grafton, Rensselaer, NY until about 1870 when he moved to Afton, Wisconsin, where he died in 1901. I have several people trying to identify the uniform so we can attempt a positive ID. If you have any info on Rufus or Grafton, NY or anything else pertinent, I would appreciate knowing. Please reply to Bonnie Wheaton if you have any additional information.
